Peeking Pete

Peeking Pete ("the App") is a macOS application that uses your Mac's front-facing camera to detect, in real time, whether someone other than you is looking at your screen. This Privacy Policy explains exactly how the App handles your data — with a particular focus on camera and face data, which is the most sensitive category of information the App interacts with.
Peeking Pete does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of the following:
Peeking Pete uses your Mac's front-facing camera solely to detect, in real time, whether one or more faces are visible in front of your screen. All face detection is performed entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Camera frames are processed in memory and immediately discarded — no photos, video, or images of you or anyone else are ever recorded, saved, or transmitted.
If you choose to enable the "Enrolled face" or "Launch face" detection modes, Peeking Pete stores a small mathematical descriptor of your facial landmarks (a set of normalized 2D coordinates produced by Apple's Vision framework) locally on your Mac, in the App's sandboxed preferences. This descriptor is used only to compare the geometry of faces the camera sees against your own face, so the App can tell when someone other than you is looking at your screen. The descriptor is not an image, cannot be used to reconstruct your face, and is not used for identification, authentication, advertising, analytics, or model training.
We do not collect, transmit, share, or sell any face data. No face data is ever sent to our servers or to any third party. The face descriptor is stored only on your device and is deleted when you disable the feature, clear your enrolled face from Settings, or uninstall the App.
The App stores your preferences (such as detection mode, sensitivity, alert settings,
and — if you enable face enrollment — your local face landmark descriptor)
on your Mac using macOS's standard UserDefaults system inside the App's
sandbox container. This data never leaves your device, is not synchronized to iCloud,
and is not accessible to us or to any third party. Uninstalling the App removes all of
this data.
Face landmark descriptors are retained locally only as long as you choose to keep the feature enabled. They are deleted when you:
Raw camera frames are held in memory only for the few milliseconds required for Apple's Vision framework to detect faces in each frame, and are then discarded. They are never written to disk.
Peeking Pete does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or backend services. Purchases, refunds, and subscription management (if applicable) are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store; the App itself does not transmit any payment information or personal data to us or to any third party.

Peeking Pete is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Because the App does not transmit personal data off your device, there is no remote data for us to access, export, or delete on your behalf. You remain in full control of all local data and can delete it at any time by clearing your enrolled face from Settings or by uninstalling the App.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Material changes affecting how face or camera data is handled will be highlighted at the top of this policy.
